Love Where You Row

Beyond our mission to conduct a safe and fair race on one of the most challenging courses in the country, we work year-round to give back to the community and lead efforts in sustainability.  The HOSR supports access to rowing and empowerment of youth through rowing; we strive to be stewards of our river and park; and we endeavor to be good neighbors, supporting local businesses, organizations and endeavors.

Empowering Youth

Philadelphia City Rowing (“PCR”) has a mission to empower Philadelphia public school students to reach their greatest potential.  They believe that by providing academic support, mentoring, nutrition education, and enrichment activities in conjunction with a highly structured athletic program, they can improve the academic achievement, health outcomes, and personal development of our participants. These components are incorporated into all of PCR’s programs, each of which is tailored to suit different age groups and levels of experience. Specific programs include competitive rowing for high schoolers (school year), recreational rowing for middle schoolers (school year and summer), learn-to-row camps for high schoolers (summer), learn-to-row camps for middle schoolers (summer).

PCR maintains a culture that reaches under-resourced youth, puts students first, and is inclusive, transformative, and engaged with the community.  All of PCR’s programs and services are offered to their participants at no cost, except for the commitment of their time and effort. To date, 100% of PCR students have graduated on time and with a plan to further their education or professional training.

Proceeds from registration fees will be used to support programming expenses for PCR competitive youth programs, including coaching costs and professional development, student-athlete transportation, healthy snacks, swimming lessons, uniforms, and more.
